Awareness Workshop Highlights Breakthroughs in Eco-Agricultural Research

Peradeniya, Sri Lanka – October 16, 2024
A landmark awareness workshop titled “Progress of the Research Conducted on the Applicability of Enriched Compost on Field and Vegetable Crops and Related Eco-Agri Technologies” was successfully held on October 16, 2024, at the Appadorei Auditorium, University of Peradeniya.

The event brought together a diverse audience of researchers, farmers, policymakers, and environmental advocates to review the latest developments in enriched compost technologies and their practical impact on field and vegetable crop production. The workshop served as a platform to discuss sustainable farming alternatives that align with agroecological principles.

Sponsored by CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development), United Kingdom, and coordinated by MONLAR (Movement for Land and Agricultural Reform), Sri Lanka, the workshop marked a significant step in bridging scientific research with grassroots agricultural practices.

Participants engaged in presentations and discussions on the use of bio-enriched compost, its role in improving soil health, crop productivity, and environmental resilience, and its integration into broader eco-agri systems. Researchers shared field-level data and success stories from pilot implementations, highlighting the potential of these technologies to transform conventional farming into more sustainable models.

The event also emphasized the importance of policy support, farmer training, and multi-stakeholder collaboration in scaling these innovations across Sri Lanka.

The workshop concluded with a call for strengthened partnerships between research institutions, civil society, and the farming community to drive forward eco-agricultural transitions that are both scientifically sound and socially equitable.
